Why Intellectual Property Matters: An Introduction for Entrepreneurs
Intellectual Property (IP) protection is one of the most important tools for a startup company in terms of valuation and investment but is often overlooked or ignored by many founders during the formation and development of the startup.  Seeking IP protection late in the business lifecycle can lead to the loss of IP rights and devaluation of the brand itself.  Accordingly, it is important to have some knowledge of the different types of IP and how they can help your business at various stages to ensure you appropriately protect your brand and innovations while also protecting against encroaching competitors.

Image and Personal Branding in a Global Marketplace
During this session, KIRTH BOBB will discuss how entrepreneurs and professionals traversing a borderless global business and opportunity landscape, who we are, and how we represent ourselves is ever so important. Our business and profession interests are often closely tied to our digital identities, and each image of ourselves and our companies represent our calling card. Regardless of culture, or business environment, in today's market, it helps tremendously to put a face with a name. A business prospect is likely to "Google you" very early in a decision making phase, and the images they're presented with will remain a part of that all so important first impression. First impressions are lasting.

Human-Centric Leading
What:
A 1-hour interactive workshop where you’ll learn a new leadership mindset.

Why:
To learn a new mindset — human-centric leading to enhance your impact at work.

Most people see themselves and others as titles, roles or functions, which generates defensive behavior and a focus on self-preservation. Human-centric leading transforms self-preservation into a focus on what’s best for the team/project. By seeing people’s entire personhood and using core-level tools to guide conversations, defensive behavior falls away, leaving space for creative and more meaningful collaboration and problem-solving.

With this workshop, you’ll access insight into the patterns you use that undermine or empower you at work.

Lyft Pitch
**MUST COMPLETE REGISTRATION WITH LYFT LINK ABOVE**

One Stage.
8 Lyft Drivers.
$30K in Cash Prizes.

For these entrepreneurs, driving with Lyft has become a catalyst to opening a boutique, refining a product, or simply putting food on the table while they launch their business. And with Lyft, drivers have earned over $1.5B to support their families and professional endeavors.

That’s why Lyft is launching Lyft Pitch, a venture pitch competition celebrating (and funding) Lyft drivers who are entrepreneurs. We’re excited to report that these individuals are not isolated to the tech industry or Silicon Valley. That’s why we’re kicking off the program by celebrating entrepreneurship from the mid-Atlantic region. The competition kicks off on September 26 and culminates on November 14 at the Lyft Pitch finals in DC when eight finalists take the stage for a chance to win $30,000+ in cash and in-kind prizes.

Join us at the historic Blind Whino SW Arts Center to cheer on our finalists as they give a pitch of a lifetime in front of a packed house and judges with decades of combined business and investment expertise. The event will also feature a vendor marketplace where 20+ Lyft drivers will exhibit their businesses, live entertainment, and an open bar and free snacks sourced from local businesses.

Hackers/Founders is the largest network of entrepreneurs in the world and is home to the H/F Co-op, an accelerator and founders’ cooperative for high-growth startups. The very first Hackers/Founders meetup was held in 2008 and consisted of five people hanging out in a bar talking about startups. Since then, H/F chapters have sprung up in cities all over the world. In Washington, D.C., it brews collisions between technical, nonTechnical and creatives year round to explore the latest challenges/resources founders are facing, crowdsource solutions, and build a network of support to help you grow and accelerate.

Check out the Co-op, H/F’s founders’ cooperative. It’s not an accelerator, but a community of founders, mentors and educators working for the success of all.

Finally, there’s the HACK fund, our own venture fund on the blockchain, because we’re all done dealing with fundraising stuff, both for founders and investors.

HireHer Panel - Minority Majority
Minorities will be the majority in 2050 according to the US Department of Labor. Embracing this inevitable change in how you develop content and scale your business will make companies more competitive. In order to remain innovative, industries must develop workplace cultures that value inclusion, and are supportive of diversity of thought and background. Leverage the insights of diverse leaders along with the perspective of the voice of the employee to take your firm to the top. While women and minorities in high-level executive positions serve as a pipeline to the underrepresented, its time to change the game significantly by increasing the presence of this group in the C-Suite and delivering products and services with mass appeal.  The value of forming strategic partnerships with the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs will inspire greater innovation.

Street Pitch + #FoundersRising Awards 2018
**MUST COMPLETE REGISTRATION WITH LINK ABOVE**

Street Entrepreneurs is a funnel for grit. This year we served 385 makers, shakers, and doers. We provided 32 pay-what-you-can-workshops and selected the most visionary and dedicated founders to showcase their companies to the community and to a digital audience. If American Idol and Shark Tank had a baby it would be called Street Pitch.

We believe in collective impact. Therefore, we are bringing together over 20 grassroots community partners and countless supporters to give these entrepreneurs the platform they deserve by sharing, live-streaming, and promoting their pitch. These entrepreneurs will pitch YOU, the live and digital audience, and you will decide who gets your investment.
